Where it all began: My resin art journey
Where it all began: my resin art journey
Behind every artist, there’s a story to tell. During my own journey, I’ve found that learning about how an artist started out has made me connect to their art more. So, today I’d like to tell you the tale of my resin journey, and how I ended up here. This is also the story of how you ended up here, because without you I wouldn’t be able to do what I love!
It all started in July 2020. My son had left for the Airforce, leaving me to be an empty nester for the first time. On top of that, I as well as everyone else was learning to cope with the uncertainties the pandemic brought on. My emotions were ALL OVER the place.
As I sat around locked in the house feeling depressed and anxious, I knew I needed to find another purpose. One night I was surfing YouTube to distract myself from reality and stumbled upon something interesting: epoxy resin. I’d never seen anything like it, and was immediately intrigued! So, I did what any aspiring artist would do and dove in head first.
I ran out and bought all of the supplies I needed to get started, and began to research. I was uncovering a creative side to myself I had no idea was in there! I started creating as much as I could, while researching and dealing with trial and error. Remember, there’s always room for error when you’re learning! When I couldn’t work on my projects, I would be researching resin art and learning the ins and outs.
As you can imagine, I was creating quite a collection of resin art. I would give them to friends and family as gifts, and receive positive feedback. My sister encouraged me to open my own business, a thought that had never crossed my mind!
Flash forward a few months. With the help of my sister I had a website and marketing materials ready to go! We launched the website on January 11, 2021 at noon. My heart began to race, would I get any business?
Within MINUTES I had my first sale! I was in tears, I couldn’t believe it! By the end of the first day, I had 21 sales under my belt. It was more than I ever could have imagined! Never did I think I would be creating a product other people would pay for.
After that first successful day, I continued to move into unknown territory. Within the first month of being in business, I signed up for my first vendor event! By the end of 2021, I had 19 events under my belt. In 2022, I had added on 20 more events! Things were really moving along.
As my business grew, I started working on social media accounts to showcase my resin art. I grew a Tik Tok community full of aspiring resin artists wanting to learn how to get started. That’s when I had the idea to launch Resin in a Box, a resin education course resource for artists at any stage in their journey!
In just one year, I have taught over 50 students on how to start their resin art journey! As we move into year two, I look forward to continuing to create my own unique resin art while sharing my journey with fellow artists. I want to bring joy and unforgettable memories to those in the resin art community! Join me in finding your creative side, and let’s get started!
